“Fighting the old,” as in refusing to admit that things have changed.
But things HAVE changed!
We’ll be more ready for the present and future if we are not obsessed, sitting and soaking in the past, or in our lost preferences. This fits the new virus world; it also fits all our other problems that were going on anyway.
That shift of attention can be painful. But it also OPENS THE DOOR TO HOPE, maybe even joy.
